ESPERANCE, Review Saturday February 5th

An excellent day of racing was conducted by the Esperance Bay Turf Club on Saturday with Jockey Shaun Meeres taking riding honours with a treble and a narrow second in the final event.


Meeres rode a double fror trainer Fiona Scott on City Plan and Time Star, and had a nose victory with My Girl Kate for trainer Sally Roworth. 

City Plan at her second race start score an impressive win in The XXX Gold maiden over 100om beating Hell Of A Devil and Lunar Ice. Favourite Deramarama was always well back and was unplaced. Snooza won the Hahn Premium Maiden narrowly from favourite Lucky Bay with Magical Note just getting third ahead of Hi Dollie.

The first staying event of the season saw favourite Hacketts Heart too good for Jeux D'espirit and Put Option in the Bear Cove Radler Hcp over 1950m. The Brendan Corver trained galloper is been set for the Esperance Cup.

Wily veteran He's Smokin won his 16th race when a good winner of the Emu Export Hcp over 1200m, after a good ride by apprentice Michael Grantham, over outside Jay Dee Rocks and Ron's Gem. Outsider Time Star stormed home from 9th on the turn to win the Hahn Super Dry Hcp beating Comes Round and Elljay.

My Girl Kate overcame been held up on the turn to win by a nose over Boyne River and Corolla in The Tooheys Extra Dry Hcp over 1200m. Only a Long neck seperated the first four horses in a great finish.
Veteran Jockey Dan Miller got Swahili home in the Summer Bright Hcp over 1600 after been held up for a clear run at the 250m. The Tracey Frizzell trained galloper won by a nose over Stormy Express and Impact Rating.

Outsider Silver Ambush had to survive a protest to win the Hahn Superdry Hcp over 1600, when he narrowly beat Wing Star and Albany galloper Commandeer.
