The Albany season opens this Sunday, with a Seven event card commencing at 12.45pm. Though not many capacity fields, there is some very interesting and open races on the program.
Race One: Though only six runners, a case can almost be given for every starter. Top weight Carbineer dominated this class last season, and got home nicely in a recent trial. He has yet to win first up and is untried at this trip. Tidal Storm is a prolific winner at this track and distance and though now eight, always races well fresh. Weekly Express is another that comes to hand quickly, has a good record at the distance, but yet to win first up. Secret Courier is one of few travelling horses to the meeting and has race fitness on his side. The Tax Man won his way through the classes last season, and has won at only two starts at this distance.
Race Two: Movie World was very impressive last season over more ground, however was a first up winner at this trip last preperation, and trialled well recentley. Late Change looked a little disappointing at Mt Barker but will improve greatly on that first up effort. Commandeer, will have the service of debutant apprentice Alex Lawrence. The eight year old should never be discounted in this company. Trochee has not raced for 30 months, but got to the line well in a recent trial. Look Here Trousers is another who is never too faraway in this company.
Race Three: Having a 1500m race at the opening meeting was never going to attract a big field, but an interesting race all the same. Don'Tell Toby has a run under his belt, albeit a distant third over 1200m, this distance will suit better. Masters Seal has run two good races back from a spell and has won at 1600m, so looks well placed here. Raunchy Business raced well fresh at Mt Barker last week and is a winner at this trip. Carallen Steel never looked likely first up, but should be an improver here stepping up 300m. Ruberian is suited at the trip, but races first up without appearing at trials.
Race Four: Interesting Maiden field. Silver Business has been disappointing in stronger company this campaign, but did run 2nd to Loyalty at Ascot earlier this year. Is race hard for this. Eternal Advice was honest in this company last season and resumes here. My Equine Friend was doing it's best work at the finish at Mt Barker and the extra 200m will suit. Midnight Touch has had two runs back from a spell but will need to do better. Boundary Street has been placed at this trip twice in six race starts. Meclang caught the eye late when finishing fast over 1000m at Mt Barker.
Race Five: Briello looked good in winning a 600m trial at Albany recentley and makes debut here from a good gate. Competitive Street was just that, late last season with three placings from last four runs. Designer Diva was never far away late last campaign but yet to win in fourteen starts. Jeveviv, showed potential last season, and was impressive at recent Albany trials. Dainty's Fury recent form suggests that it will be in the mix here, though drawn wide. Octane Molly was not disgraced at her Mt Barker debut, whilst Carry The Banner is capable of running well after two starts last season.
Race Six:### LATE SCRATCHING - She's A Saint. ### All Spots was consistent this company last season, but yet to be placed when racing first up. She's A Saint looked ready, when placed in a strong trial recentley and looks well placed here. The Mighty Boosh has not won for over two years but never faraway this company. Mr Magnificent should improve on his Mt Barker effort. The Keillor Kid races best when fresh and likes this trip. Art Of Love steps up in class after winning at Collie.
Race Seven: Tiga Romano has shown ability at limited starts and looked good winning at Mt Barker. Chaddie showed good improvement last season and can be in the mix. Disco Reveller was not disgraced first up in WA at Mt Barker and is capable of surprising. Marooned Flirt raced well fresh last season but dropped away quickly. Canny Besain was disappointing last season, but trialled well at Albany.
