Mt Barker Review from Sunday Nov 1st

Watsons Bay (D.Chipman) wins at Mt Barker

Even though the weather was on the cold side, a big crowd attended the opening meeting of the season. The track looked in excellent conditions and winners came from all parts, with no sign of a track bias.

Race 1: Cherpara started at good odds at the track, but was heavily backed late on the tote, and never gave his backers a worry coming away for a comfortable win over CarmineMadonna who ran a nice race with It'll Be Sweet doing its best work at the end to run third. Meclang also ran on fairly, but not but much more could be said for the beaten division. Jockey Willie Arnold would not have looked out of place at the Boyup rodeo after his mount Ellofagale began well but then put in a few good short ones before Willie hit the deck. Fortunatley he was uninjured and bounced back well later in the day with a double.

Race 2:  Small field, and Watson's Bay jumped to the front, dictated terms and the race was all over. Timely Reign finished second, but never looked a winning hope at any stage. Don't Tell Toby battled away to finish a distant third

Rcae 3: An agressive ride from Alan Kennedy paved the way for Tiga Romano to break her Maiden status. Kennedy took Tiga Romano to the lead on the corner and held too many guns for the other fancy My Equine Friend who finished well,  Pulashaky battled on well to finish third and should break his winning duck soon. Missy Lara at her debut finished the race off well and is sure to continue to improve.

Race 4: From last on the corner race hard Ravinsky swooped to win well here for Willie Arnold over Magic Of Silver who led. Evil Force battled on well to run third after looking to have had enough 200m out, and should strip fitter next start. Sir Onan was doing his best work late, whilst favourite Late Change looked disappointing.

Race 5: A good ride by David Chipman saw the grey Raunchy Business race on the pace and come away for a solid win over Master's Seal who had the run of the race behind the leaders and battled on well. Pwakkers Back led and set a solid pace and held on for third. Tangram was not far away and will improve on the run. Western Navajo went forward from a wide draw and a battled on well. Favourite Capel Time got back early and was never a winning chance.

Race 6: Narrogin trainer Shane Harcourt rounded out the meeting with a long priced double when Well Adjusted came late to nail Stormyglow on the line by a nose. Stormyglow kicked clear at the 150m and just failed to hold on. Russian To Win had every chance and held third from Ridgewood Starlight who came from last on the turn. Favourite Solo Dante got lost in traffic just before the turn and failed to run on.
