Ryan Levitzke reports:
The second of a ten meeting season at the Esperance Bay Turf Club gets underway this Saturday afternoon. The rail will be located at the inside position, large fields is the order of the day with TAB coverage on Racing Radio. Former Queensland but now Albany based trainer Darryl Ward will be bringing a team of eight runners over for the meeting
The day kicks off at 2:07pm with the running of the Dunc’s Super IGA Maiden (1300m) and Gotanygoss and The Key Cutter loom as the big guns. Both were minor placegetters at the opening meeting and there is a solid chance they will run the Quinella. Cheval Rose is a newcomer drawn well and wasn’t beaten far last start at Bunbury. Former Victorian La Mia Dorabella is open to improvement and Snow Minx has a rough place chance from barrier one.
The Quick ‘N’ Clean Carwash Sprint will be run over 1200m and newcomer Grasa Express is the interesting runner. His five opponents all contested the same event two weeks ago when Jay Dee Rocks led throughout to beat Dancing Granada and Expedition respectively. Dancing Granada gets in well at the weights and looms as a leading candidate and leading hoop Willie Arnold has been booked for the mount. Expect He’s Smokin’, Expedition and King Of The Stalls to all strip fitter but they all have big weights to combat.
Race Three kicks off the Quaddie and is sponsored by McCreeds Classic Jewellers, Patron D. Piercey and Patron R. Read. Last start winners Lady Lavenham, Trida Brando and Ron’s Gem all look suited over the 1200m distance. Time Star resumes for a top trainer and Stormy Quest should benefit after the first up performance. Em Dante looks to have each way claims after running second in a recent Trial at Albany and Via Delfino has been placed 3 times in New South Wales.
The Bay Of Isles Financial Services Maiden (1100m) sees the clash of Racoff and Competitive Street. Competitive Street looks set for a bold showing from barrier one and Racoff should be in front for a very long way. It’ll Be Sweet will have some admirers after a placing at Mt. Barker last month and Outside Influence should also be considered for exotic calculations given the fact that she has been placed in 5 of 12 career starts.
The Concrete World and Roofline Trusses Handicap (1100m) is choc-full of chances and finding the winner will be extremely difficult. Parkside, Mr Magnificent, Arcade Attraction all performed well at the opening meeting and Tashi Delek was an all the way winner. A host of other newcomers boast solid form and it’s hard to work out who will be the favourite/s. Trainer Brendan Corver has opted this race for last start winner Donargy, and gains a run as emergency with Cummings scratched. Good luck !!!
The meeting concludes at 5:23pm with the running of the Duncan Stewarts Liquor Store Country Challenge Heat (1300m) and a capacity field of fourteen will face the starter. Donargy is an early scratching, allowing last start Albany placegetter Cummings a start. Key’s Ace wasn’t beaten far last start but rises in weight because of the class drop. Second Lady is capable of improving and Just Sue is sure to be finishing strongly. Lady Berthe looked very impressive first up and is guaranteed to be blossoming late as well.
