Esperance Twilight Preview Friday 15th January

This Friday’s meeting at the Esperance Bay Turf Club is a twilight meeting. The first race is scheduled for 3:03pm and the sixth and last is set down for 6:02pm. The EBTC is expecting a large jovial crowd by the time the Quaddie begins just after four o’clock.

The Hahn Super Dry Handicap kicks things off with ten horses to face the starter. Racoff looms as the likely leader and should take running down with Esperance based rider Kirryn Waldeck in the saddle. The Menace is a last start winner albeit at Kalgoorlie five months ago, Give It Time is an interesting runner and Outside Influence has been placed at her last 3 starts.

A capacity field of fourteen have accepted for the XXXX Gold Maiden. The event looks to be between Cut And Dried and Royal Wing. Both gallopers have been minor placegetters at their two runs this preparation but Cut And Dried has the advantage of an inside barrier. Mosaytic hasn’t been too far away and offers a value option for Trifectas.

The Emu Draft Handicap is over 1400m and Mr Magnificent looks very hard to beat after his brilliant last start victory. Fizzy Kel should be fitter after his first up effort and Cyclonic Force is one to keep an eye on after her eye-catching third at the last meeting. Miss Alonso and Kimberleys, despite both being disappointing at their last starts certainly have the ability to challenge.

The Tooheys Extra Dry Handicap is over 1600m and Just Sue deserves to start a warm favourite. The six year old mare boasts an impeccable track record and has scored at her last three starts. The Gift was also very impressive at his last start and must come under serious consideration. Danish Currency and Key’s Ace are the other leading chances.

Only a small field of six have accepted for the Swan Draught Sprint and the handicapping system looks to have evened the field up nicely. It’s hard to split the likes of He’s Smokin’, King Of The Stalls, Expedition and Grasa Express and although Dancing Granada and Ears Loppy don’t have great form, they both have the luxury of carrying light weights.

The final race is the Hahn Premium Light Handicap and there are a host of winning chances. Arcade Attraction, San Supremo and Tashi Delek are all recent winners. Parkside, Danger Man, Western Crown, Chesta Piniton and Stormy Express are all worthy of Quaddie consideration too.

Early selections ; Racoff, Royal Wing, Cyclonic Force, Just Sue, He’s Smokin’ and Arcade Attraction.   - Ryan Levitzke
