Mt Barker Review 31st December
Jockey Shaun Meeres had a red letter day riding a double on Trimconnection and Star Buck for Wagin trainer Angela Smith, as well as three seconds from seven mounts.
Race One: The Rob Witten trained Troubled Smile blew his four opponents away with a very easy win over Billyaintsilly who battled away well with Zoom Star plodding into third spot, but never looking a winning chance. Port Regis was a fair effort first up, whilst Jolanta Star continues to struggle to regain form.
Race Two: Watson's Bay kept his Mt Barker win record at 100% with an easy win over Week Bix and Western Zed who led.
Race Three: Apprentice Yannick Valenti only had the one mount and made it a one for one with a good ride to bring Marshall Jensen down the outside to win from a fast finishing Pwakkers Back and Blazing Icon. Speedy Bohemian led and just missed the placings.
Race Four: Elleofgale blew most punters out of the Quaddie after racing wide and fighting on strongly to just beat Hussonace who again ran a nice race. Rivotio caught the eye running on strongly to just grab Dinglish for third. Both La Mia Dorabella and Harmony Card both ran improved races finishing just behind the placegetters. Favourite Grandblurr was under pressure before the turn and finished well back, but will come back a good prospect next preparation.
Race Five: Speedy galloper Alms went straight to the front and led all the way to win well from Rambler who had every chance. Jolanta Sky at her debut ran a very good third and with more race experience looks to set to become a promising type.
Race Six: Ridgewood Manna who goes well for Jockey Shaun McGruddy had this race won everywhere but on the post when Trimconnection got up, after taking an eternity to reel Ridgewood Manna in. City Of Subiaco finished on well to just get third ahead of Whittingham who was a good run first up. The Hunter trained fancied duo Daintys Fury and Stockmans Dream both missed the place, but were not suited under the weight conditions.
Race Eight: Star Buck with Shaun Meeres getting the second leg of his double up, used the cutaway to his advantage and came away to win comfortbaly over Washington Avenue and the Keillor Kid who ran on strongly again. King's Tribute was close up and is looking for more ground.
